Question: How do I set up Global Hiring Powered by Remote?

Purpose: To teach you how to set up Global Hiring, powered by Remote, so you are ready to hire and manage your employees and contractors worldwide.

Setup and configuration

  1. To start with Global Employment, click on the globe icon in the left menu, or navigate to Settings > Global Employment and click Schedule a Demo. A member of our team will reach out to give you a demo or provide more information on Global Employment. They will also enable it on the backend so you are able to download the app in your account.
  2. Learn more about Employer of Record and Contractor of Record.
  3. Do a quick calculation of hiring costs by selecting the country and using the salary slider. To view more specific details, click Get a Full Cost Breakdown to open the full cost breakdown calculator.

Once our team has enabled Global Employment on the backend, the account owner and full admin users will see the Get Started option on this page. This will open a Company Registration page where you can create your Remote account.

Fill out all fields and check the box to confirm that you agree to Remote's Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy. Click Install.

Global Employment is only available to new Remote customers. If you have a current Remote account, you will see a warning informing you that we are working hard to enable this integration for existing Remote customers in the future.

You will then receive a confirmation that Remote has created an account for you with the information you provided.

On this screen, you will see the Account Owner and Super Admins assigned in Remote, pulled from your BambooHR account. Your Account Owner in BambooHR will be the Account Owner in Remote. Any Full Admins in BambooHR will be assigned as Super Admins in Remote. The admin roles will be kept up-to-date as you update them in either system. However, if you change your Account Owner in BambooHR, you will need to reach out to Remote's support team to update the Account Owner in Remote.

From this screen, you can also jump to your Remote account by clicking My Remote, or start adding global employees by clicking +New Employee (see below for more information).

In the sidebar menu, you will now see a Global Employment (Powered by Remote) tab. Clicking this will open your Dashboards page in your Remote account on a new browser tab.

Once you have installed Global Employment in your account, you can access the onboarding module to help you get everything set up.

Custom access for Global Employment

If you need users who are not the Account Owner or Full Admins to be able to manage global employees, you can grant them access through a custom access level.

When creating the custom access level, under "What can people with this Access Level do?", check the box next to "Manage Remote Contracts" (this option will only appear if the Global Employment integration is installed). This grants the user a Remote login, Super Admin access in the Remote platform, and the ability to do the following (assuming they also have permission to view employee information):

Hiring and Onboarding

  • Create contracts when hiring globally (via the ATS or New Employee form).
  • Convert existing employees to Global Employment through the Hire Through Remote dropdown on the employee profile.
  • View Remote onboarding tasks for a global employee.

Managing Active Global Employees

  • View a Global Employement contract status in employee profiles.
  • Request contract amendments.
  • End employment for a global employee (with the End Employment permission).
  • Copy the Remote Employee ID from the employee profile.

Global Employment Settings

Users with this permission can access the Global Employment Settings page to do the following:

  • View a list of global employees and their contract status.
  • Use the cost calculator.
  • Access country guides.
  • Copy the Remote Company ID.
  • Navigate to Remote via Magic Link.

Global Employment billing

Global Employment is powered by Remote, and therefore, billing is handled directly by them and you can find more information regarding it here. However, for your convenience, there are a couple of places in BambooHR you can reference your subscription and find links to billing information in Remote

Once you have added Global Employment to your account, it will be visible under the 'My Subscription' section in Settings > Account > Account Info. The option to uninstall Global Employment is not available in this location. Instead, you can uninstall it from the Apps tab of Settings if needed

You will also see your Global Employment integration under Settings > Account > Billing under "Plan." Clicking Remote Invoices next to "Global Employment" will open a new browser tab where you can log in to your Remote dashboard and view and manage your invoices.

Global Employment settings page

Before you have hired any global employees, the Hired by Remote section on the Global Employment page will be blank. You will see a few options at the top of the page:

  1. My Remote: Clicking here will open your Remote account in a new tab.
  2. Hire Through Remote: Clicking here will kick off the Global Employment onboarding flow (see below for more information).
  3. Cost Calculator: This option allows you to compare the cost to hire in different countries (see below for more information).
  4. Remote Company ID: This is your company's 36-character Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) generated by Remote. To view it, hover your cursor over Remote Company ID or click on it to copy it to your clipboard. It can also be found in Remote's platform under Company Settings > Company Information.

When you hire your first global employee, Remote will run some background checks to verify your company. If any action is needed on your part, you will see a banner at the top of this page saying either "Company Verification" or "Reserve Payment Required." Follow the link to provide the additional, required information.

Get an estimate

When you click Cost Calculator (as seen above), the full cost breakdown calculator will open, allowing you to get a cost estimate.

You can start the calculation based on either Employee's Annual Salary (default) or Hiring Budget For This Role. You will also be asked to provide the following information:

  • Employee Country
  • Employer Billing Currency (defaults to USD but can be changed to CAD, NZD, AUD, EUR, or GBP)
  • Employee's annual salary or the total hiring budget for the role (this depends on the option you selected at the top)
  • State, province, or region (additional fields for countries with regional differences)
  • Benefits you will offer to employees in this country
  1. Once you have created at least one estimate, when you click on Cost Calculator, you will see your estimates. Each estimate shows the monthly total cost and annual total cost, along with an estimated onboarding timeline and links to helpful hiring and benefits help guides for that specific country. From this page, you can do the following:
    • Reset Estimate
    • Export All As CSV
    • Export All As PDF
    • Add Another Estimate
  2. By clicking on the three-dot menu, you can do the following for a specific estimate:
    • Edit (reopens the calculator with your existing inputs so you can make adjustments)
    • Export as PDF
    • Delete
