General Settings

General Settings

The General Settings page (Settings > Account > General Settings) lets you manage what employees can upload, how information is displayed, and how data appears in reports. All settings here apply company-wide.

SettingDescription
Allow editing and deleting of line items in all tablesIf enabled, admins can edit and delete table data. Only the Account Owner has access to view and change this setting. If you are a Full Admin and need it updated, contact your Account Owner.
Allow employees to upload their own photos, regardless of their permissionsIf enabled, employees can upload their profile photos.
Allow employees to upload files to their Employee Uploads folderIf enabled, employees can upload files to their Employee Documents folder in their employee profiles. Once enabled, Full Admins can access the folder, but it will not appear to the employee until at least one file has been uploaded.
Show expanded gender options

If enabled, employees will see an additional "Non-binary" option when selecting their gender. This option allows employees to select or customize their Gender Identity. Additionally, employees can select their preferred pronouns from an expanded list, however, there is not a way to customize pronouns. Pronouns will not be displayed for an employee who selects Male or Female. 

In BambooHR® Payroll, gender information in associated reports will default to Male or Female. Designations are determined by the first letter of the employee's last name, with half of the alphabet designating male and the other half female, alternating every other letter.

Date Input Format Set how dates appear across all accounts (mm/dd/yyyy, etc.)
Number FormatSet how numeric data is displayed across all accounts
Default CurrencySet the default currency used across all accounts (each currency field can still be customized if needed)
TimezoneSelect the default timezone for all accounts within your company. Learn more about timezone settings for remote workers.
Default CountryDefine how state/province and ZIP/postal codes appear in all accounts.
Display NameDefine how employee names should appear throughout accounts within your company. Click here to learn more.
IndustryThis setting is autopopulated with the industry set in your company's account settings and determines the industry classification used for benchmarking and reporting. If needed, you can edit this field by choosing a different industry from the dropdown list of preset options. (Updates to the Industry setting may take up to 30 days to appear in AI-driven benchmarking data, as benchmark tables refresh once per month.)

If you make any updates to the settings above, click Save Changes at the bottom of the General Settings page to apply them to all accounts.

Timezone settings for remote workers
Location

While the Timezone setting in Settings > Account > General Settings defines your company's default timezone, employees assigned to a location set as "Remote Location" in Settings > Employee Fields > Location can adjust their personal timezone settings.

Employees assigned to a physical location cannot change their timezone settings. To view a physical location's timezone, go to Settings > Employee Fields, hover over the location, and then select the pencil icon. This will open the location setup details.

Location

"Remote Location" is defined when adding a new location and selecting This location is for remote employees.

Account Settings

Employees with a location set to "Remote Location" can set their timezone in their personal account settings. To do so, click the profile photo in the bottom left corner, select Account Settings, choose the timezone, and then click Save Settings to apply the change.
