Human Interest

An overview from BambooHR® Marketplace:

Human Interest is an online 401(k) provider that, like BambooHR, is easy to adopt and even easier to use. We provide affordable, customizable, and automated retirement benefit plans that are custom-built for small and medium-sized businesses and their employees. Human Interest’s full service 401(k) includes recordkeeping, compliance services, full account setup, flexible plan design options, and reporting.

What steps do I need to take before enabling the integration?

Before enabling this integration, you need to create a custom access level for Human Interest to access your BambooHR account. This user must have access to all employees you would like to synchronize with this integration.

Create a new custom access level named Human Interest with the following parameters: 

  • Under the What this Access Level Can Do section, click Settings and mark Benefits.
  • Under the What this Access Level Can See section >> See about other employees, click on the Benefits tab and grant the user Edit access to benefit history and all 401(k) related benefits, such as 401(k) and Roth 401(k). 

Save your new access level. 

Add a non-employee user

BambooHR

After you have created your new custom access level, you will need to add a non-employee user to the access level. You can do this by clicking on the gear button in the top right corner when viewing the access level in Settings. Enter the following information for this new user:

  • First name: Human
  • Last name: Interest
  • Email: bamboo+[company ID]@humaninterest.com (If you don't know your Human Interest company ID, please reach out to Human Interest.)

Click Save and Grant Access.

How do I enable the Human Interest integration?

To connect, go here and log in to your Human Interest account. Click Connect to BambooHR and enter your BambooHR subdomain.*

*The subdomain is the first part of your BambooHR URL. For example, if your BambooHR URL is https://helpcontent.bamboohr.com, your subdomain would be helpcontent.

What if I use BambooHR Payroll?

If you use BambooHR Payroll, you must update the Human Interest access level to include run payroll permissions and assign the non-employee Human Interest user to the right EIN(s) within the Human Interest access level. Assigning the user to an EIN will give them a TRAXPayroll login.

1. Within your BambooHR account, navigate to Settings > Access Levels.

2. Scroll to the Custom Access levels section and locate the Human Interest access level you set up above. Click Human Interest and then click Access Level Settings.

3. Under the What Can People with this Access Level Do section, click Payroll and mark Run Payroll. Leave Approve Payroll unchecked.

4. In the same section, click on Reports and mark View Payroll Reports. 

5. Click Save Access Level at the bottom to save your changes.

Now, you need to assign the correct EINs to the Human Interest user by following these steps:

  1. Within the Human Interest access level, hover over the Human Interest user and click the dropdown menu that appears on the right. 
  2. Click Manage Payroll Access from the menu then check the box next to Give this employee payroll access. If you have multiple EINs, we recommend assigning all of them to the Human Interest user by checking the box next to each one. 
  3. Click Save.   

There are a few things to keep in mind as you complete this setup: 

  1. BambooHR will automatically create a user in TRAXPayroll once the Human Interest user is assigned to the updated Human Interest access with payroll permissions assigned. The permissions in BambooHR and TRAXPayroll will be the same. 
  2. Permissions are now all managed in BambooHR, not TRAXPayroll.
  3. Once you set up the user, Human Interest can SSO over to TRAXPayroll from BambooHR.

  • To find your TRAX Client ID, log in to TRAXPayroll and click Home. Your client ID is in parentheses next to your company name.
  • Payroll Report Type: Select 401 Report.
  • Check Yes for "Are you currently running payroll in TRAXPayroll?"

*Please note: Human Interest will cover all fees related to the setup of SFTP.
