Manage Dashboards

The Manage Dashboards page enables users to access, update, and manage dashboards effectively. Users can view available dashboards, edit content, and adjust settings. How do I manage dashboards?

Who this is for
Before you start

Before managing dashboards, keep the following in mind:

  • Standard dashboards are view-only and cannot be customized.
  • Changes made while editing a dashboard will affect all users who have access to that dashboard.
  • Dashboard access is managed through BambooHR custom access levels.

Users without dashboard editing permissions can still view dashboards shared through their assigned access level permissions.

From the Manage Dashboards page, you can search for dashboards, view available standard and custom dashboards, and review dashboard details and settings.

Standard dashboard actions

Step 1: Open a standard dashboard

Reports
  1. Go to Reports > Dashboards.
  2. Click Manage Dashboards.

On the Manage Dashboards page, you can find available dashboards. Click on a standard dashboard to open it.

The following options will appear once you open a standard dashboard from the Manage Dashboards page.

  1. File menu: Duplicate or download the dashboard you are currently viewing
  2. View menu: Refresh data for an updated view of the dashboard or reset default filters.

Standard dashboards are not deletable.

Custom dashboard actions

Step 1: Open a custom dashboard

  1. Go to Reports > Dashboards.
  2. Click Manage Dashboards.

If you are subscribed to the Elite package, you will have additional options on the Manage Dashboards page:

  1. Search: Search for a specific dashboard.
  2. New Analysis: Create a new data visualization to add to a dashboard.
  3. Filters: Here, you can use additional filters to narrow down your dashboard search.

Open the custom dashboard you want to edit by clicking its name.

Step 2: Use available dashboard actions

Reports

When viewing a custom dashboard, the toolbar at the top of the dashboard includes additional management options:

  1. File menu: Edit, duplicate, download, rename, or analyze the dashboard.
  2. View menu: Refresh dashboard data or reset default filters.
  3. Edit: Takes you to the edit version of the dashboard to make any necessary changes (filters, controls, etc.)
  4. Workbook: Switches the dashboard to individual charts (no editing capabilities)

Within the dashboard, click Edit in the top right corner.

Step 3: Edit a custom dashboard

Once the dashboard enters edit mode, the top banner will display:

  • Draft status
  • Autosave timestamp
  • Publish and Leave draft options

​If you need to rename the dashboard, navigate to File and select Rename.

Changes are autosaved when editing a dashboard.

Reports

While editing a custom dashboard, the top toolbar includes the following options:

  1. Charts: Show or hide charts within the dashboard.
  2. *Add filter: Add filters to one or more charts.
  3. Add control: Add controls that allow users to swap fields, dimensions, measures, or timeframes within charts.
  4. Add tile: Add text tiles with markdown formatting, links, images, or dashboard instructions.

*Hiding a dashboard filter does not restrict access to sensitive data. Use access level permissions to control dashboard data access.

Edit dashboard layout

While editing a dashboard, you can rearrange or resize dashboard charts by dragging and dropping them into the desired placement.

To edit an individual dashboard chart:

  1. Hover over the chart.
  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
  3. Select Edit in workbook.

The Hide Chart option removes the chart from the user's view, but the underlying data stays connected to the dashboard.

Step 4: Save your changes

After updating your dashboard:

  1. Review your changes.
  2. Click Publish in the top right corner to apply the updates.

Published changes will immediately update the dashboard for users with access.
