How do I use the My Time widget to track my work hours, breaks, and projects?

Summary

The My Time widget allows you to record work hours, clock in and out, manage breaks, assign projects, and review your daily, weekly, and pay period totals from your Home page. The options available depend on how your organization has configured BambooHR Time & Attendance.

The widget experience varies depending on which Time & Attendance features your company has enabled.

My Time widget

If you use BambooHR Time & Attendance, the My Time widget will be in the top left corner and below your basic information. Your My Time widget will look different depending on how you track your hours worked in BambooHR. Click on the time entry methods below to learn more about your specific experience.

Total Hours Worked - Single entry for the whole day

  5. Save time to...: If you select Work Hours (will only show if your company has enabled break tracking) and your company has enabled project tracking, you can attribute your time entry to a project or task here.
  6. Add Note: Click the note icon to add context to your time entry.
  7. Add Entry: If you need to add multiple entries, click Add Entry to add another time entry to the modal.
  8. Day Total: Quickly review the sum of your tracked time for the day.
Start & End Times (without time clock)

  5. Start Time/End Time: Enter time periods here. If you are entering multiple time entries at once (see #5), take care to ensure your entries do not overlap or you will not be able to save your entries.
  6. Save time to.../Break: If you select Work Hours (see #4) and your company has enabled project tracking, you can attribute your time entry to a project or task here. If your company has enabled break tracking and you select Break Time (see #4), this dropdown allows you to choose the break you are taking. If your company has not enabled break tracking, but has enabled project tracking, you will only see the project tracking option above.
  7. Add Note: Click the note icon to add context to your time entry. If you are recording a break after it has happened, leaving a note is required.
  8. Add Entry: If you need to add multiple entries, click Add Entry to add another time entry to the modal.
  9. Day Total: Quickly review the sum of your tracked time for the day.
Start & End Times (time clock enabled)

If you clock in or out via the mobile app and your location is a requirement based on Time & Attendance settings, you will see a map icon next to a time entry in the My Time widget. If you click on the map icon, you can see the associated location details with your clock-in or clock-out time entry.

Please note you cannot clock in if you have a future manual entry. For example, if you manually enter time for this afternoon but used the time clock this morning, you will need to wait to put a manual time entry this afternoon until after you clock out this morning. This action prevents manual time entries from overlapping with the time clock.

If your clock-in entry spans midnight, we will automatically clock you out and clock you in on the next day. For example, if you clock in at 10 PM on Monday and clock out at 3 AM on Tuesday, your time entries would be Monday 10 PM-11:59 PM and Tuesday 12:00 AM-3:00 AM.

Break tracking

If your administrator has enabled break tracking, you will see the Take a Break button when clocked in. If you have been assigned multiple breaks, you will see them listed on the widget. After you have finished a break, it will have a green checkmark by it.

Once you have started a break, the My Time widget shows you break status. If your break goes on too long, or if you forget to end your break, you will see the orange warning and need to verify your time before ending your break. Once you end your break, you will automatically be clocked back into any projects or tasks you were previously working on.

If you need to assign a project or task to your time entry while using project tracking, click the dropdown arrow to select a project. If there are tasks involved with the project, you can select which of those tasks you are working on during this time. The project and task will show next to the time entry on your timesheet. If you do not have any assigned projects to work on, you will not see this option when entering your hours.

If you submit a single daily entry, you can add a project or task by clicking the note icon that appears once you add your time entry for that day.

If you submit multiple daily entries without a time clock, you can add a project or task when you click to enter your hours worked.

Common issues and fixes

IssueCauseFix
Cannot clock in
  1. A future manual entry already exists
  2. Your company has determined that you must be within a set amount of time of your scheduled shift to clock in
  1. Wait until the current clocked shift ends before entering future manual time, or edit your manual time entry
  2. Wait until it is closer to the beginning of your shift
Entries will not save
  1. Time entries overlap
  1. Adjust the entries so no time overlaps
Cannot assign a project
  1. No projects have been assigned
  1. Contact your administrator if you believe you should have project assignments
Break requires verification
  1. Break exceeded expected duration or was not ended
  1. Verify the break and then end it
Missing break options
  1. Break tracking is not enabled
  2. You have not been assigned breaks
  1. Contact your administrator to confirm how you should handle breaks.
  2. Contact your administrator if you believe you should have break assignments
Cannot add or edit timesheets
  1. Your company has restricted timesheet access to View Only
  1. Contact your manager or administrator to correct any incorrect information
