Passkeys let you sign in to your BambooHR securely without a password. Passkeys use your device's built-in security—like a fingerprint, face recognition, or a PIN—to verify your identity. If your company uses BambooHR login credentials (not SSO only) and your browser supports passkeys, you can sign in to your account with a passkey from your BambooHR login page.

  1. What are passkeys?
    • Passkeys are digital keys on your device (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) that let you log in without a password. They use your device's built-in security to log in with your fingerprint, face, or PIN. Passkeys are more secure, convenient, and faster.
  2. Do I need to use a passkey to log in to my BambooHR account?
    • No, you can still use your password. Passkeys are just a faster, more secure option. We understand that some users may not have a passkey-enabled device or may simply prefer to continue using their password. Therefore, passkeys are an additional credential you can choose to set up, but your existing password will always be available as a fallback option. This approach gives you the power to choose the login method that works best for you, while still offering a more secure alternative.
  3. Do passkeys replace passwords?
    • No, the passkey will serve as an additional credential to their password. Their existing password-based login will continue to work as it always has.
  4. Can I use passkeys on mobile?
    • Yes, passkeys are available on the BambooHR mobile app.
  5. What if my browser doesn't support passkeys?
    • If your browser does not support passkeys, you will see the standard login page instead. Passkeys work on most modern browsers like Chrome, Safari, and Edge. Passkeys also are available on with certain qualifications on Apple (iPhone/iPad) and Android devices.
  6. Do I need to complete 2-Step Login when signing in with a passkey?
    • No. You do not need to complete 2-Step Login (multifactor authentication) when signing in with a passkey. However, if your company requires 2-Step Login, you will need to set it up before you can create and use a passkey. 

Who this is for

  • Employees, non-employee users, and admins who log in using BambooHR authentication.
  • Available to all BambooHR packages (Core, Pro, and Elite) on desktop and BambooHR mobile app.
  • Not available for companies using Single Sign-On (SSO) exclusively.

Before you start

Make sure:

  • Your company allows BambooHR authentication (not SSO only).
  • You have already set a password (or completed 2-Step Login using an authentication code) and successfully signed in once before creating a passkey.
  • You are using a supported browser.

How to create a passkey

Sign in to BambooHR using your email and password. Once signed in, click on your profile photo in the bottom left corner and select Passkeys.

On the Passkeys page, click Add a Passkey and follow your browser's prompts to create your passkey. All saved passkeys will appear on this page.

You can rename a passkey to make it easier to identify (e.g, "Work Laptop").

How to sign in with a passkey

  1. On the BambooHR login screen, select Log in with a Passkey.
  2. Choose the passkey stored on your device or password manager.
  3. Complete your device's authentication (fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN).
  4. You're in! No password or MFA needed.
How to manage or remove passkeys

Click on your profile photo and select Passkeys. There, you will see a list of your saved passkeys.

  1. To create a new passkey, click Add a Passkey.
  2. To rename a passkey, click on the pencil icon.
  3. To remove one, click on the trash icon or choose Remove All Passkeys.

How to create a passkey
  1. New employees can set up a passkey right after signing up.
  2. Existing employees can add a passkey anytime from Account Settings, or when prompted after logging in.
  3. Your device will ask you to confirm using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN.
How to sign in with a passkey
  1. On the login screen, you'll see an option to sign in with a passkey.
  2. Your device may auto-detect your passkey and start signing you in automatically.
  3. If not, tap the passkey option and authenticate (Face ID/Touch ID/PIN) to finish logging in.
  4. You can also use your phone's passkey to sign in on another device (like a computer) using a QR code. 
How to manage or remove passkeys

A new Settings  Passkeys, where you can:

  • Add a Passkey
  • View your registered Passkeys
  • Remove a Passkey

You can rename a passkey to make it easier to identify (e.g, "Work Laptop").
